| Learning
these five points, taken from Personal Evangelism Training, is a good
beginning for sharing your faith. Your conversation might go something
like this:
1. Eternal life is a
free gift and is not earned or deserved.
2. The reason we
all do not have eternal life is that man has sinned and cannot save
himself.
3. We know that God is merciful and loves us. He wants us to go
to Heaven, but He holds us accountable for our sins.
4. God solved the problem by sending Jesus into the world. Actually,
Jesus is God. He suffered and died for our sins and arose from the
dead and is in Heaven preparing a place for us. God now offers us
eternal life.
5. We accept His gift of eternal life by faith — that is,
repenting of our sins and trusting Jesus Christ alone for eternal
life.
“It’s
that simple. Does this make sense to you? All Jesus asks us to do
to accept His gift of eternal life is to be willing to stop doing
those things He does not want us to do. We want to trust in Him,
not ourselves, and ask Him to come into our hearts to be our Savior
— our Helper. Would you like to pray now and invite Jesus
into your heart?”
Pray a short
prayer with the prospect. Show them John 6:47. Give them a picture
of Christ* and start them on Basic Bible Studies for New and Growing
Christians #1*.
Encourage
them to tell someone about what has happened to them, to attend
church as much as they can, to pray every day, to read the Bible
every day, and to not give up.
